Manufacturing AI Decoded:

Cut Through the Noise

Why This Newsletter, and Why Now?

Welcome to the first issue of Manufacturing AI Decoded. We created this newsletter to give manufacturing executives a clear, practical lens on how AI is reshaping the industry, from the shop floor to the boardroom. As the masthead states, this newsletter cuts through the noise to highlight how AI is creating real value, where it introduces risk, and what leadership teams should be paying attention to right now.

The Big Takeaways in This Issue

Short on time? These are the most important insights in this issue.

Perdue Farms Boosts its Business Capability Mapping with AI to Deliver Faster Reporting and Better KPI Visibility

Perdue Farms-1

This quarter, we traveled to Perdue Farms to discover how it used AI to enhance its business capability mapping and fix a decentralized IT landscape that was hampering business performance. Here's the rundown of Perdue's AI journey:

  • Business Problem: Address fragmented software systems across business entities, siloed data, and a heavily customized legacy ERP environment that limited unified analytics and operational coordination.

  • Project Owners: Cross-functional leadership team & the Transformation Management Office.

  • AI Infrastructure: Perdue deployed capability mapping to align systems with business outcomes and then combined it with a three-tier AI framework:

    1. Associate AI: AI tools and assistants focused on productivity

    2. Embedded AI: AI capabilities integrated into existing platforms to enhance functionality

    3. Custom AI: Tailored AI solutions for specific organizational needs

  • What the Team Learned: Normalizing data and taxonomies across departments with long-standing customized systems proved to be challenging.

  • What Worked: The establishment of a unified framework prioritizing AI initiatives with cross-functional value to ensure it aligned with strategic goals.

The Bottom Line: The value delivered included improved operational efficiency, faster reporting, better KPI visibility (e.g., on-time delivery), and enterprise-wide alignment of systems and processes.

One Fun Thing: Social Media for AI Bots

moltbook-removebg-preview

Science fiction and reality intersected in January when millions of AI agents joined Moltbook, a social media channel built just for them. Think: Reddit for AI.

  • Humans are prohibited from joining the site, although they can observe!

How it works: AI agents have used this site to start their own religion, share inside jokes, have existential conversations on their “purpose” in life, and argue what type of information should be stored in their memories.

In the Next Issue of Manufacturing AI Decoded...

We'll return on June 26, exploring these and other topics:

  • Where are you and your peers investing those critical AI dollars?

  • The results of the Alliance's landmark study on how manufacturing firms are crafting and assessing their AI strategies.
  • Details about a new AI conference hosted by the Alliance in November.

Thank you for leading the future of manufacturing with us.
